What Makes A Player Want To Settle Down? One Guy Explains

I have a guy friend who has more luck with the opposite sex than pretty much anyone else I know. Surprisingly, he’s actually something of a serial monogamist, which is why he was excited to date around when his most recent relationship of a few years ended. He decided he wasn’t going to be settling down any time soon. But after a year of being single, it seems like someone’s stealing his heart anyway. I asked exactly what makes this woman so special, and he was more than happy to tell me.

She’s super smart. My friend and his crush are actually in law school together, so he’s gotten plenty of firsthand experience with how brilliant she is. Instead of making him feel insecure, it just makes him like her more (as it should). The Clooney Effect at work, perhaps?

She brings a few things to the table. “She’s the perfect mix of cute and badass,” my friend gushed to me. I pumped him for details, and apparently the object of his affection knows how to use her petite, adorable stature to her advantage—she plays up the cuteness when the situation calls for it. But there’s that whole law school thing, so she’s a go-getter when necessary too.

They started off as friends. They’ve been study buddy pals for about a year with nothing but platonic feelings for most of it. It was only recently that my friend started feeling something more, and it’s throwing him for a loop. He already feels invested because getting to know her as a friend has made him like her so much more, he says.

They haven’t hooked up. We’ve debated waiting to have sex before, and it seems like doing so might work out in this case. My friend has had sex with the other women he’s been seeing pretty much immediately. It’s not that he’s judging (he was one of the awesome guys here who said first-date sex wouldn’t make him lose interest), but he can’t deny that the anticipation makes things exciting.

She’s not afraid to be herself. “I can tell that she likes herself. She’s not worried about people thinking she’s weird. She just does what she wants,” my friend says. There you have it: proof that, along with making you happier with who you are, self-confidence is undeniably attractive. Pretty nice bonus, right?
