The Hashtags Inspiring Body-Positivity Around the World

Two East Coast moms are working to take the stigma out of stretch marks on a new Instagram account called @LoveYourLines. The result is a collection of photos that showcase strong, relatable women proudly flaunting their body scarring and revealing personal stories of physical changes.

The creators, who have chosen to remain anonymous, came up with the idea following a conversation about how pregnancy changed their physiques. "Even though we are moms, we both had 'stretchies' before having kids and we are aware that women get them for different reasons at different times," one of the women told the Huffington Post. They put out an open call for user submissions and received more than 70 in one night.

“2 beautiful children, 2 (not so beautiful) C-sections, within a 2 year time frame,” one woman wrote in a post she submitted. “My children’s father put me down all the time because of the way my body looked…I can gladly say I’m slowly learning to accept my body for how it is. I’m blessed with 2 wonderful children and in a new relationship with a man who doesn’t hesitate to remind me how beautiful I am inside and out.”

Now, their project's hashtag, #LoveYourLines, has become one of many to keep the global conversation about body image going. Lots of social media users have been inspired to share their stories or utilize similar viral hashtags as a call to action about body image norms that need to change.
