Let’s take a trip back in time to your middle school maturation unit. Bet they didn’t tell you that almost half of the pre-pubescent boys in the classroom will eventually develop breasts. In fact, around 90 percent of the male population will notice changes in their breast size throughout life as a result of producing too much estrogen. But now there’s a brand new way to combat the problem for those who aren’t interested in going under the knife: a bra just for dudes.

Kaku Nishioka, owner of a Tokyo clothing store, created the Floral Goodnight Bra, or Kahei Oyasumi nighttime bra, to firm up excess breast tissue over time and reduce the natural sagging caused by gravity. “A man who wears this bra to bed at night will find everything is held firmly in place and looking good the next day,” Nishioka told the Mirror.

Gynecomastia, the medical name for the benign condition otherwise known as man boobs or “moobs,” usually resolves itself, however, many men instead turn to corrective surgery. On average, about 20,000 male breast reductions are performed annually with the rates steadily rising. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the average cost of gynecomastia surgery is $3,196 — so the $30 lingerie set is a steal in comparison. Both investments could be worth it though: one study said that adolescent boys with the pectoral condition were found to have lower self-esteem, social functioning, and mental health. Additionally, boys with breasts had higher rates of disordered eating, thoughts, and behaviors than their flat-chested peers.

While no scientific results have proven the success of bras for bros, we’re firm believers in finding a treatment that works best for your lifestyle.
