Kraft Recalls Singles Over Choking Risk

Kraft is recalling certain Kraft Singles products over potential choking risk, the company recently announced.

The problem: A thin strip of the packaging film, which covers each Singles product, could stay stuck to the Singles slice even after the wrapper is taken off. If a person then eats the slice, he or she could face a choking risk.

There are so far been 10 consumer complaints, and three reports of choking, Kraft said. The recall affects about 36,000 cases of Kraft Singles products that were shipped throughout the U.S., Puerto Rico, and Grand Cayman. (The product was not shipped to Canada.)

The recall is not due to anything other than the potential choking hazard from the packaging. The recall only affects three- and four-pound sizes of Kraft Singles American and White American pasteurized prepared cheese product, which have the “Best When used By” date of Dec. 29, 2015, to Jan. 4, 2016. Only these products with the Manufacturing Code of S54 or S55 are affected.
