Engaged Couple Sees What They’ll Look Like As They Grow Old Together

Talk about getting a peek into the future!

Kristie and Tavis, an engaged couple in their 20s, underwent a little experiment with Cut Video and Field Day: Thanks to the magic of makeup (and some consultation of old family photos), the hands of time were turned forward, and they were able to see what they’d look like in their 50s, 70s, and 90s.

It ended up being equal parts funny, surprising, and confirmation of their desire to spend the rest of their lives together.

When they were transported to their 50s, Kristie was surprised at her family resemblance: “Yeah. I’m gonna look just like my mother one day!” she says in the video.

Zipping to their 70s, though, things get a little more emotional. “I can’t help but think about what the potential last 50 years were,” says a somber Tavis.

And finally, when they’re made up to look in their 90s, they’re spurred to look back at their (potential) lives together and the years they’ve (potentially) shared. They’re asked: “What would be the last words you guys would say to each other?”

“There are so many things I couldn’t be without you and will never be without,” says a crying Tavis. An equally teary Kristie says: “Being about to get married and embarking on all that, I couldn’t be more sure that this is what I want.”

Of course, there’s no magic 8 ball when it comes to who will have a happy marriage, or whose marriages will last. But science does have some things to say: A recent paper from the National Bureau of Economic Research showed, for instance, that the biggest indicator of a happy marriage seems to be having your significant other be your best friend

Other research shows that being agreeable seems to be key in a long-lasting marriage (and good for sex life!). And of course, there’s something to be said for trusting your intuition about the other person: A small study from University of Florida researchers showed that when married couples trusted their guts, they were more likely to be happy in the marriage over time.
