Looking for a date who loves Mickey Mouse as much as you do? There’s a new dating website for you.

MouseMingle.com, which launched on Tuesday (Dec. 1), bills itself as the place to interact with other Disney lovers “who want that same magic in their relationship.”

“Traditional Internet dating sites don’t understand the passion people have for all things Disney. But we do,” MouseMingle.com says on its homepage.

The site was founded by Disney fan Dave Tavres, who tells Mashable the concept has been in the works since 2011. MouseMingle.com is similar to your typical dating site: For $12.55 a month, users can create a profile and message or chat with other users. But it also asks people to share their favorite Disney songs, characters, parks, and memories.

Niche dating websites are nothing new (among other things, you can meet other gluten-free singles, skaters, and pot fans online), but experts are mixed on whether they can actually increase the odds a person will find love.

While it makes sense that having shared interests would make a relationship more successful, New York City-based psychologist Joseph Cilona, PhD, tells Yahoo Health that clinical research doesn’t support the idea. “There is little evidence that having common interests is associated with relationship success,” he says.

But when it comes to extreme fandom, like Star Wars fanatics or extreme Disney lovers, it doesn’t hurt, clinical psychologist Suzana E. Flores, PsyD, author of Facehooked: How Facebook Affects Our Emotions, Relationships, and Lives, tells Yahoo Health. “If you’re really into this interest, then it absolutely helps because many other people may not understand the level of your dedication to your interest,” she says.

While Flores says it typically takes three shared interests for couples to become hooked on each other, it’s also normal to have hobbies that your partner doesn’t share.

Experts says it’s possible to have a successful relationship with a super-fan, but both partners need to be open-minded. “You don’t have to get everything from your partner and it’s important to understand that,” Flores says. “But your partner also has to be open to the fact that you’re going to want to fulfill your interests elsewhere.”

Into the idea of using a niche dating site? Atlanta-based psychologist and relationship coach Jared DeFife, PhD, tells Yahoo Health that there’s some benefit, but adds that people shouldn’t limit themselves to the idea of only having a relationship with someone who shares the same interests. “Niche dating sites often have smaller member pools, so that can make it harder to find and connect with someone, especially in your area,” he says.

However, niche sites like MouseMingle.com are a good idea, Cilona says, if only because they provide a good jumping-off point. “If you are looking for love, the more avenues you pursue and actions you take to find it, the more likely you are to be successful,” he says.
