Chicago White Sox starting Centerfielder Adam Eaton has a unique style of play at the plate and in the field. Due to his commitment to training and nutrition he signed on with Go Pro Workouts to share his workouts with athletes looking for insight into what it takes to play professional baseball. Adam is not the biggest guy on the field but he plays like it. Here are three exercises that he does daily to increase his speed, strength and agility.

Side Lunge with Bosu Ball

Similar to the Side Lunge, stand with your feet parallel and close together. Keeping your left leg straight, step out to the side with your right leg and bend at your right knee. Add a Bosu Ball to the exercise to add extra resistance to the workout. This adds an element of balance and focus. Push off the right leg to return to start position. Repeat and switch legs.

Perform 3 sets of 5 reps on each leg.

Wall Explosion

Stand with the wall to your side, with feet hip-width apart and holding a medicine ball at chest level. Rotate your entire body 90 degrees towards the wall with the goal of rotating and releasing the ball at your target in a fluid motion. As you rotate your body, you will want to shift your weight into the leg closest to the wall. Catch the ball as it bounces back towards you. Adam’s tip: You can catch the ball off the wall directly or let it bounce prior to catching it. Adam prefers to catch it off the bounce as it closer mimics a baseball situation.

Perform 3 sets of 10 reps each.

Vertical Slalom

Place 5 hurdles in a straight line approximately 2 feet from each other. Starting on one end move as quickly throw the hurdles as you can. If you notice in my video I am using an almost vertical shuffle motion keeping my hips facing forward toward the last hurdle.

Perform 2-3 sets of 10 reps.
