Three members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force were shot and killed, and five additional law enforcement officials were shot while they were serving a search warrant in Charlotte, NC, Charlotte-Mecklenberg Police Chief Johnny Jennings told reporters Monday. At the time of the shooting, the U.S. Marshals Task Force was serving a warrant in an investigation "when they were engaged by active gunfire from a subject," police said Monday. One of the five wounded is a U.S. Marshal while the other four work for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, Chief Johnny Jennings said in a press conference Monday evening.

State prosecutors said Monday they will not seek to retry 75-year-old George Alan Kelly, the Arizona rancher accused of fatally shooting an unarmed migrant on his property near the U.S.-Mexico border. “Because of the unique circumstances and challenges surrounding this case, the Santa County Attorney’s office has decided not to seek a retrial,” said Deputy County Attorney Kimberly Hunley at a status hearing. As prosecutors made their announcement, Kelly could be seen hanging his head and appeared to be overcome with emotion.

Suzanne Morphew, the Colorado mom who went missing on a bike ride in May 2020, died by homicide, according to an autopsy released Monday, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation said in a statement. Barry Morphew, Suzanne's husband, was charged with her murder in 2021, but those charged were dropped in April 2022 just before a trial was supposed to begin. 3 police officers shot in Louisiana in fatal standoff with gunman: Officials
Three police officers were wounded in a fatal standoff with a gunman in Louisiana on Sunday, officials said. Kenner Police were called to the 700 block of Farm Avenue at approximately 9:45 a.m. local time after two people were shot outside of a residence, according to a statement from Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joseph Lopinto and Kenner Police Chief Keith Conley. The residence belonged to a family member of Michael Lathers, 31, who was wanted for an attempted murder and armed robbery that occurred earlier in the week in Kenner, officials said.
