What to Eat at the Frieze New York Art Fair

image

The Frieze New York art fair opened this week and runs through Sunday on Randall’s Island Park. The organizers tapped some of the coolest eateries in the city to set up shop amidst the event’s many paintings, sculptures, and video installations. If you’re wondering what to eat when you get there, here are our recommendations:

Roberta’s
Alfresco dining plus Brooklyn’s best pizza. Get the Bee Sting pie with spicy honey.

Ovens serve up Roberta’s famous charred wood-fired pizzas.

Picnic benches, where you can enjoy your pizza with a nice view of the East River.

Morgenstern’s
Manhattan’s new favorite ice cream shop has a tiny scoop station near the Roberta’s area. Try the Vietnamese Mint Chip. The servings are child-sized, but that means you have room to try the ice cream from Van Leeuwen, which also has a presence at the fair.

Morgenstern’s ice cream stand serves up original creations like Green Tea Pistachio, Sesame Caramel, and Strawberry Sassafras.

Van Leeuwen Artisan Ice Cream
Speaking of which, the butter-yellow Van Leeuwen ice cream truck is parked just outside the event’s quarter-mile-long tent. Grab some ice cream before hopping on the ferry back to Manhattan or stretch out on the grass. Try one of Van Leeuwen’s vegan flavors.

Court Street Grocers
The Brooklyn sandwich gurus have a cafe inside the tent with options for vegans and carnivores alike, plus beer on tap. Thumbs up to the broccoli salad and the anchovy sandwich with radishes and butter.

The cafe offers freshly prepared salads and sandwiches.

Marlow & Sons
If you’re looking for more of a proper lunch, stop by the Frieze outpost of this Williamsburg, Brooklyn, favorite.

Dimes
Vegan? The cool Lower East Side eatery has a small outpost at Frieze and is offering its popular chia pudding.
