Truck Carrying 76,000 Pounds of Ribs Goes up in Flames, Causes Huge Unintentional BBQ

The Internet is ablaze today over the semi-truck that burst into flames just outside Los Angeles last weekend. Apparently, its trailer was carrying a good 76,000 pounds of ribs, all of which burned to a crisp before firefighters were able to get to the scene. No injuries were reported, other than those sustained by the ruined ribs.

DID ANYONE EVEN TRY TO TURN THEM?” howled one hungry writer.

Another barbecue lover took to Facebook: “If only the truck had collided with a truck carrying salt, brown sugar, vinegar, and chili powder, and the whole thing became lodged under an overpass that kept the temperature at about 275 degrees.”

Even the firefighters themselves weren’t able to resist including the “wonderful BBQ beef rib odor” in their official written report.

We’re still waiting on the official “in memoriam” Twitter hashtag to materialize, but in the meantime you can watch the carnivores of the Internet collectively vent their frustration. (To sum it up: “NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! The humanity!!”)

Though we’re not generally proponents of things (dangerously, expensively) going up into flames, assuming no one got hurt, here are some other foods we wouldn’t mind getting torched. (Hey, we’re human.)

Marshmallow Truck: We’d be standing by with tongs, slabs of chocolate and Graham crackers at the ready.

Dried Corn Kernels Truck: BYO giant movie screen, projector, DVD and butter to the freeway. Party time.

Bacon Truck: This is our fantasy and you guys are just bystanders, OK? Yes, bacon trucks exist, or they did once, and they’d be well-advised to stay away from us and our lighters.

Bananas Truck: We’d need to arrange for it to crash into a truck carrying brown sugar for best brûlée results, but this could happen. Messy, but doable. We’re also open to a plantains truck.

As always, we are open to your smokin’ rib-related hashtag suggestions.
