Healthy, Delicious Smoothie Recipes

Smoothies might possibly be the perfect food, especially in the warmer months of summer. They’re icy cold and refreshing, packed with the season’s freshest fruit, the sweetness of which masks any number of good-for-you-but-don’t-taste-great-on-their-own ingredients. This means that if you make them right, you have a nutritious drink that’s often hearty enough to replace a meal.

As Julie Morris, author of the book “Superfood Smoothies” writes, “It’s a smoothie, it’s not a science,” meaning any of us are capable of making them at home. Here is Morris’ formula: Start with hard chunky ingredients, then add soft chunky ingredients, then any powders or superfoods, then liquid, and, finally, ice. Read here for more detail.

Once you’ve got that down, it’s time to hit “blend” and drink your healthy green, maybe orange, maybe pink breakfast or mid-afternoon pick-me-up. Here are 12 healthy concoctions to try.
