#FarewellCaptain: The Cake Boss Honors Derek Jeter

However you slice it, it’s going to be bittersweet in the Bronx tonight as Derek Jeter steps up to the plate at Yankee Stadium for the final time.

What’s not bittersweet is the tribute cake commissioned by the New York Yankees and baked by Buddy Valastro of Carlo’s Bakery and TLC’s Cake Boss fame. The interior is vanilla and chocolate cake with chocolate fudge and decked out with a Yankees pinstripe exterior and Jeter’s own #2, of course.

Valastro, a Yankees fan, fondly remembers watching Jeter play when he first joined the team. “When we found out that this was his final season, we knew we had to be a part of it,” Valastro told us this afternoon. “We’ve been fortunate enough to make a few cakes for him and the Yankees as a whole. He’s a class act and will be missed!”
