David Chang, Tom Colicchio, and Friends Celebrate Edible Schoolyard NYC's Spring Benefit

Chefs love to support Edible Schoolyard, the organization co-founded by Alice Waters of Berkeley's Chez Panisse and dedicated to helping young children learn about and have access to healthier meals. So it was no surprise that New York's hottest chefs were out in force last night to support Edible Schoolyard NYC, which was inspired by Waters' program.

Its annual spring benefit, themed "Growing the Next Generation," was held in the Financial District and featured more than 25 chefs, from Top Chef's Tom Colicchio to April Bloomfield of The Spotted Pig. Each chef was assigned to — and cooked for — a different table in the room. The culinary chair for the evening was Chef David Chang of the Momofuku restaurant group, and co-chair Karlie Kloss, who was in Paris for work, welcomed the crowd via video.

Edible Schoolyard NYC operates garden education programs at two schools in New York, P.S. 216 in Gravesend, Brooklyn, and P.S. 7 in East Harlem. "When we teach kids about growing, cooking, and eating healthy food, they fall in love with it," said executive director Kate Brashares.
