9 Times People Broke Doughnut World Records

We might not all agree on who should be president in 2016, if that dress was white-gold or blue-black, or if Qatar makes sense for the 2022 World Cup. But I think we can agree on this: doughnuts are really delicious.
National Doughnut Day, which takes place the first Friday of June, has become something short of a national holiday. It was started by the Chicago Salvation Army in 1938 to honor women who had served doughnuts, as well as writing supplies, stamps, and home-cooked meals, to soldiers during World War I. The holiday has also served as a way to raise funds and awareness for the Salvation Army’s social services program.
In 2015, National Doughnut Day, which occurs on June 5, translates into doughnut shops across America giving free doughnuts away (find out how to get yours here).
In honor of National Doughnut Day, Yahoo Food presents you with a host of delicious tidbits of information, all courtesy of the Guinness Book of World Records organization for you to enjoy while eating your free doughnut.

Jam doughnut eating record: Patrick Bertoletti holds the title for most jam doughnuts eaten in one minute. He downed three of them (without licking his lips, is apparently one of the rules of jelly doughnut eating). Lup Fun Yau shares the title for most jam doughnuts eaten in three minutes with Steve McHugh. They both ate 6 (again, no lip-licking). Philip Joseph Santoro broke the record for eating a jam doughnut without his hands: he devoured one in 11.41 seconds.
Powdered doughnut eating record: Shamus Petherick set the record by eating 6 powered doughnuts in three minutes.
Tower of doughnuts: In 2007, the tallest stack of doughnuts ever was created. The tower measured 43.5 inches, and was built by members of 20th Century Fox and Capital Radio to celebrate the premier of “The Simpsons Movie” at the offices of Capital Radio in London. Eight people build the doughnut pyramid, using 1,764 doughnuts.
Doughnut box: The largest box of doughnuts ever was created in Kuwait. The box weighed in at 297 pounds and 10 ounces.
