They’ve actually been creeping skyward for a while now, but the price of one metric ton of cocoa beans just rose 9.7 percent—and that’s up from a 21 percent jump in 2013. To sum it up: Demand for chocolate is getting greater (never saw that coming), but more cacao beans aren’t magically appearing on trees. And when demand outstrips supply, prices get higher.
