The Best Cruises for Food Lovers

As winter drags on, many people are booking travel as a way to escape the cold, and one popular choice, especially from East Coast port cities like New York City, is to get cruise and sail into warmer climates.

For those weary of jumping onto a massive ship, cruises no longer means getting stuck in a boring buffet line or assigned seating with a group of people you don’t know. Cruise lines have revamped their dining programs to lure customers with immersive classes, food-focused excursions, and restaurants from celebrity chefs.

Many cruise lines want to be able to compete with the best restaurants on land. Royal Caribbean is one brand that offers a wide range of options, from casual pub food to opulent chef’s table experiences, all on the same boat.

For example, this year, the culinary team bid on white truffles at auction to be able to serve them on board.

“We believe in having the most incredible ingredients at the peak of its freshness,” says John Suley, the Vice President of Food and Beverage for Royal Caribbean, of the truffles that are used tasting menus paired with wine.
