Aspire to Tip Like Charles Barkley

If you’re as rich as onetime basketball phenom Charles Barkley (according to the site CelebrityNetWorth.com, he’s worth nearly $30 million), you can afford to dole out a $25,000 tip once in a while.

We learned this and more during Barkley’s recent appearance on Conan O’Brien’s late-night show. ”The more successful you are, I think the more you should tip. I truly believe that,” Barkley told O’Brien, calling out under-appreciated and overworked waiters, waitresses, and blackjack dealers who have been on the receiving end of his generosity.

But not all über-rich sports stars are so giving. Barkley ticked off a roster of athletes who, by his assessment, can afford to be a little looser with the purse strings. “Well, there’s nobody cheaper than Scotty Pippin and Michael Jordan,” Barkley dished. “Tiger [Woods]’s pretty cheap, too.”

When O’Brien expressed surprise that people so rich could be so stingy, Barkley quipped, “I think that’s why they’re rich. They don’t tip!”

Well played, Charles. Well played.
