A Salted Chocolate Caramel Shortbread Slice That’s Easy to Make

Like Twix bars? Put the candy bar to shame with this easy-to-make pan of homemade shortbread with layers of caramel and chocolate and a salty finish.

First combine butter, sugar, and flour and pat down in a square baking pan. The bake for 20 minutes at 350 degrees.

While the shortbread is baking, make the caramel with butter, brown sugar, sweetened condensed milk, and syrup and then spread it over the shortbread. The chocolate topping is simple combination of dark chocolate chips and butter that you mix by microwaving for 90 seconds, stopping to stir it every 30 seconds.

Using a spatula, spread the melted chocolate on top and let it cool and harden before sprinkling the dessert with sea salt.

The finished bars would make a great holiday gift — if you don’t polish off the pan by yourself first.
