6 Scary-Good Boozy Punches For You Halloween Party

Preparing drinks for your Halloween party shouldn’t be scary. A truly great party starts with a bowl of punch: that delicious liquid that is easy to drink, but isn’t too sweet. Each one of the following recipes will make about six cocktails, with about a shot of booze in each. Any of these punches can be doubled (or tripled!) for more drinks — and are easy to throw together. Plus, you can prep them in advance and finish them off when your guests come with the booze. Make one (or a few) and ask your guests to bring the alcohol.

Bobbing For Apples (a.k.a. Hot Buttered Rum)
Hot in every sense of the word, this sultry warm rum punch gets a serious kick from cayenne pepper.

Bobbing For Apples (a.k.a. Hot Buttered Rum)
Makes 6 drinks

Ingredients
8 oz spiced rum (Kraken is best)
8 tbsps butter (1 stick)
6 oz water
4 tbsps brown sugar
1 tsp ground nutmeg
2 cinnamon sticks
½ tsp cayenne pepper
1 red apple, sliced

Instructions
1. Add the water, butter, brown sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon sticks, and cayenne pepper to a medium-sized pot.

2. Cook over medium heat for about 10 minutes then remove from heat and set aside. At this point, you can leave this mixture on the stove for a few hours.

3. When you’re ready to serve, reheat the butter mixture, add the rum and red apple slices. Serve with a ladle into small Mason jars or teacups.

Mulled Wine
There’s nothing better than a richly flavored pot of mulled wine simmering away on the stove. Your entire home will smell amazing.

Mulled Wine
Makes 6 drinks

Ingredients
1 bottle of red wine (a rich red, like Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon, is best)
2 oranges
¼ cup whole cloves
1 tbsp ground cloves
½ tsp cinnamon
3 cups apple cider

Instructions
1. For a gorgeous garnish, slice off a 1-inch piece of each orange so you get a little crescent. Stick whole cloves scattered into the skin and cut the rest of the oranges into slices.

2. Pour the apple cider into a medium-sized pot. Add the ground cloves, cinnamon, and all the oranges. Cook for 10 minutes over medium-low heat. Then, let it steep for at least 1 hour.

3. When the wine arrives, add the whole bottle and simmer over low heat for 10 minutes. Remove the cut orange slices and keep warm on the stove. Serve in mugs or teacups.

Pumpkin Spice Latte Dessert Punch
More like a decadent dessert than a drink, this cocktail is dangerous. Limit yourself to one, otherwise you’ll unknowingly eat an entire pint of ice cream. You have been warned.

Pumpkin Spice Latte Dessert Punch
Serves 6

Ingredients
5 oz vodka (Reyka is best)
1 pint vanilla ice cream
1 tsp pumpkin pie spice
½ tsp cinnamon
1 cup whole milk
Canned whipped cream, for serving (optional)
Pumpkin pie spice

Instructions
1. Add all the ingredients to a blender and puree.

2. Serve in glass mugs or cocktail glasses with whipped cream and a dash of pumpkin pie spice on top. Sip or slurp with a straw.

Pear Lime Martini Punch With Grape Eyeballs
Since it is Halloween, you’re allowed to play with your food. Peeled green grapes feel like eyeballs when sunk into the depths of a martini glass.

Pear Lime Martini Punch With Grape Eyeballs
Makes 6 drinks

Ingredients
6 oz chilled vodka (Reyka is best)
14 oz chilled pear nectar (Goya or Looza brands are best)
1 oz St. Germain
2 oz lime juice, plus lime slices for garnish (about 3 limes)
4 oz cold water
1 cup green grapes, peeled

Instructions
1. First, dilute the pear nectar with 4 ounces of cold water. Stir and slowly add the St. Germaine, lime juice, and vodka.

2. Add the peeled grapes and chill in the fridge until you are ready to serve.

3. Serve cold in martini glasses or over ice.

The classic Gold Rush cocktail of bourbon, lemon juice, and honey gets an autumnal update with apple cider and orange peel.

Gold Rush In Autumn
Makes 6 drinks

Ingredients
6 oz bourbon (Four Roses small batch is best)
6 oz honey syrup (you’ll need 6 ounces boiling water and 4 tbsp of honey)
6 oz fresh lemon juice (about 6 lemons)
6 oz apple cider
1 orange

Instructions
1. First, make the honey syrup by pouring 6 ounces boiling water over the honey in a large bowl or jar. Stir gently for one minute. Set aside to cool to room temperature or store in the fridge.

2. In a large pitcher or jar, combine the lemon juice, honey syrup, and apple cider. Chill in the fridge for at least two hours.

3. Add the bourbon and a large handful of ice just before serving.

4. Use a vegetable peeler to make 6 peels from the orange. Mist each cocktail class with a peel and drop into the empty glass so guests can serve themselves.

While it may look like plain old pumpkin juice, this complex cocktail tastes like an exotic perfume. The botanical cardamom-infused gin perfectly balances the sweetness of the peach nectar for an extraordinary sensory experience.

Makes 6 drinks

Ingredients
6 oz gin (Brooklyn Gin is best)
6 whole cardamom pods
14 oz peach nectar (Goya or Looza brands are best)
4 oz water
6 slices of lemon

Instructions
1. To quickly infuse the gin, add the cardamom pods to a bowl with the gin. Use a muddler or the back of a wooden spoon to break apart the pods to release their flavor. Let it infuse for 20 minutes and remove the pods.

2. Dilute the peach nectar with 4 ounces of cold water in a punch bowl, add the infused gin, and chill in the fridge until you are ready to serve.

3. Serve cold in martini glasses or over ice. Squeeze a slice of lemon into each drink.
