6 Ridiculous Food-Themed Guinness World Records

If, during this year’s Winter Olympics, you were constantly asking yourself how anyone gets into competitive curling in the first place, including Norwegians in fantastic uniforms, well, you’ll really be stumped about how a person enters the world of walnut-cracking-with-your-head.

Yes, it’s actually a thing. According to Guinness World Records, a Pakistani man cracked a migraine-inducing 150 walnuts with his bare forehead this year, quite literally crushing the previous record of a measly 44 walnuts.

But Pakistan’s nutcracker is far from the only person challenging himself to food-related record setting. Here are five other ridiculous records people around the world have set with edible items.

Fastest Coconut Piercing Using One Digit
Ho Eng Hui is the kind of person you want stranded on a desert island with you. Not only can the Malaysian gent drill straight through a coconut’s hard shell all the way to that coveted coconut water using just one finger, a few years ago he popped four open in just 12.15 seconds, setting the world record.

Most Parmigiano-Reggiano Wheels Simultaneously Cracked
They’re competing with us about more than just ice hockey: Canadians can also crack more Italian cheese wheels simultaneously than we can. What the heck does that mean? Whole Foods set a new world record last year when employees cracked 426 wheels open across stores in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada at the exact same time (as the video below stodgily demonstrates). This year that great nation to the north tried the trick on its own, employing its largest food retailer, Loblaw Companies Limited, to crack an impressive 1209 wheels simultaneously across the land….and reclaim the title in April of this year.

Fastest Time to Bone and Slice a Smoked Salmon
Gordon Ramsay may think he can take down anyone in the kitchen, but the cocky celeb chef was no match for fellow Brit Darren Matson when the two went head-to-head in the sport of salmon slicing a few years back. Matson removed those annoying pin bones and sliced a smoked salmon into the requisite 40 pieces in just one minute, 34 seconds, beating his old record by 10 seconds. (Sadly, there wasn’t a tub of cream cheese in sight.)

Most Number of Eggs Crushed With Your Big Toes in 30 Seconds
Perhaps the most bizarre part of this feat is that it’s an entire category. Australian Sebastian Terry set a world record when he crushed 24 eggs—coincidentally, a number divisible by a dozen, heh—in 30 seconds using his toes, but there also exist separate categories for egg destruction employing kicks, heads, and wrists.

Largest Sushi Mosaic
Ever wish that you could see 400 square feet of sushi perfectly lined up to spell out the number “10”? One hundred sushi chefs made that wish come true in Hong Kong earlier this year when they created the world’s largest sushi mosaic using nearly 900 pounds of rice and 1200 pounds of fish. And apologies to sushi purists, but they used imitation crab.
