20 Times Fast Food Mashups Went Too Far

The hybrid food trend has taken over the dining scene with restaurants and bakeries everywhere creating food mashups, such as the Cronut, the ramen burger, the sushiritto, and, most recently, the cruffin. Some, of course, are more successful than others.

Fast food chains were fast to jump aboard the hybrid hype, creating various food mashups from the infamous KFC Double Down to various Nerd slushies at Sonic.

But American fast food locations are not the only ones creating fast food hybrids; many international fast food locations have introduced some pretty awful fast food mashups, including the hot dog stuffed pizza crust, which is available at Pizza Hut UK.

1. Burger King: Pizza-Size Burger

This is next-level family-style dining. The entire pizza burger consists of four Whopper burger patties sliced into six sections with a whopping (pun intended) 2,520 calories and 144 grams of fat. This pizza burger is only available at the BK Whopper Bar in Times Square. The Big Apple, amirite?

2. Burger King: Kuro Burger

Available in Japan, the Kuro, meaning black, burger contains a black bun, cheese colored with bamboo charcoal, and squid ink ketchup. Creative.

3. Carl’s Jr. & Hardee’s: Most American Thickburger

Introducing the Most American Thickburger. In addition to American cheese, pickles, red onions, lettuce and tomatoes, this half-pound burger is topped with a sliced hot dog and kettle cooked potato chips. Because, why not? And it only has 1,030 calories. Win-win.

4. CiCi’s: Mac ‘n Cheese Pizza

This dish is having an identity crisis. Pasta? Pizza? Pasta? Pizza? Both. The pizza is topped with mac ‘n cheese and then topped with more cheese. Cheese overload.

5. Cinnabon: The Pizzabon

It’s basically a pizza in roll form. Not sure if this is genius or pointless.

6. Denny’s: Fried Cheese Melt

What would make a grilled cheese sandwich better? Fried cheese, of course. This item is no longer on the menu, but you can definitely whip this up in your college kitchen after a late-night trip to the dining hall.

7. Dunkin’ Donuts: Bacon and Eggs Donut Sandwich

Can’t decide between sweet or savory? Luckily Dunkin’ Donuts has made the decision much easier for you with its bacon and egg donut sandwich.

8. KFC: Double Down

The Double Down uses two chicken filets to sandwich together bacon, cheese and sauce. This fast food creation is no longer available in KFC, but support for its revival is strong.

9. KFC: Double Down Dog

Because the Double Down wasn’t enough, KFC introduced the Double Down Dog. Yum.

10. KFC: Mac and Cheese Bites

KFC fried mac ‘n cheese bites might melt our hearts, but they will also induce a heart attack (most likely). These bites are only available at KFC locations in the Philippines.
