Zoë Saldaña’s Husband Proposed in the Most Thoughtful Way & the Internet Can’t Get Enough

As an actor, they might have to play love stories that are almost too unbelievable to be true. For Zoë Saldaña, she’s played her fair share of romantic storylines, from Avatar to From Scratch. And while those movies and series might make us tear up, it seems her real-life love story is even sweeter.
Most recently, she looked back at her relationship with her husband Marco Perego-Saldaña and fans just can’t get enough of their story together. Talking about their engagement at The Drew Barrymore Show, Marco admitted the plan involved a white lie to the actress.

“I say to Zoë, ‘I’m going to New York, I need to do something for work,'” the Italian director and producer said. “I actually went to the Dominican Republic, [thankfully] her stepfather and her family supported me and I went to see,” he said, before the Guardians of the Galaxy star completed, “My father, my father’s grave.”
Showing a picture of his tombstone, Marco said, “And I ask him if I can marry her.”
When he reunited with Zoë, however, lying didn’t go so smoothly. “When I arrived back to London, she didn’t know I went there. And she said ‘Where have you been?’ and I say, ‘I’ve been in a place but you need to wait a couple of hours and I’ll let you know,'” he remembered.
For Zoë, that answer wasn’t good enough. “We’re in a cab in London in the middle of traffic,” she said. “I just got out of the cab and I’m walking in the middle of the street and it was just very dramatic.”
After pleading with her to hear him out, Marco showed the video of him asking for her father’s blessing. “I showed her the video and she said yes,” he said. The pair, who share three sons together, got married in 2013.
“Going all that way to her dad’s grave to ask permission IM IN TEARS🥹🤧❤️,” commented on Instagram. “The real definition of if he WANTED TO he WOULDDDDD!!!! 🗣️” wrote another.
Also in the talk with Barrymore, they shared the rom-com-worthy way they met for the first time. “On a plane,” the actress remembered. “At 6 o’clock in the morning, and it was like a Virgin America flight from Los Angeles to New York post-Thanksgiving.”
“We just had a conversation and we realized that in a span of three years prior to that, we kept bumping into each other,” she said. “It was always like ‘Oh my God there’s this really gorgeous Italian, don’t ever talk to him he’s probably a player,’ and Marco was always probably like ‘Oh look at this beautiful actress let me try to make love to her and if I don’t let me try to sell her a painting.'”
Shortly after their flight together, Zoë visited him in his studio. “She came down to the studio that day and we never separated,” Marco said, proudly.
