WXBQ wins ACM Personality of the Year award

BRISTOL, Va. (WJHL) — A Bristol, Virginia radio station was awarded an Academy of Country Music award on Monday.

WXBQ’s Steve, Ben and Nikki won the On-Air Personality of the Year award in the small market category.

“We did not think we were going to win at all,” Program Director/Morning Show Nikki Thomas said. “There’s a lot of really good competition. So, you know, it’s national and you can’t take anything like that for granted. We’ve had a pretty good run, but you don’t expect anything like that ever.”

Thomas said the radio crew has dedicated their lives to the show.

“This is pretty much all we’ve ever done for a living, and you dedicate your life to something and it’s kind of cool to see them get some acknowledgment,” Thomas said. “And Steve’s one of the most creative people, I think, in the business. And we’re fortunate to have him. We’re fortunate to have Ben. So it’s good to get to see them get that acknowledgment for sure.”

In 2023, WXBQ was named the Country Music Association’s Radio Station of the Year in the small market category. Steve, Ben and Nikki also won Personality of the Year in the same category.
