It’s time for WWE NXT recap.

This week’s episode was taped on May 14, and Wrestlezone got the spoiler results when they first came out. The show continued its build toward the next PLE that is NXT Battleground. New matches were added to the PLE as well.

Here’s what went down on the May 21, 2024, episode of WWE NXT.

Miss – Thea Hail vs. Fallon Henley

This match was tied to Fallon Henley’s betrayal of Thea Hail at NXT Spring Breakin’ Week 2. Both women squared off for the opportunity to enter the six-pack ladder match at NXT Battleground. We got interferences and distractions throughout the match that reeked of overbooking.

Fallon won the match with a Shining Wizard. After the match, Jazmyn Nyx took out Thea with a Pelé Kick for breaking Jacy Jayne’s nose weeks ago. The whole Chase U shtick has dragged on for far too long in WWE NXT.

Hit – WWE NXT Tag Team Title match

The Supersonic Duo (Axiom and Nathan Frazer) put their tag team titles on the line against Stacks and Luka Crusifino. Axiom and Frazer never fail to put on a great performance. They carried their opponents to a fast-paced match.

Myles Borne and Damon Kemp returned during the closing moments of the match. The distraction allowed Axiom and Frazer to retain their titles. It didn’t take long for Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson to take out the champions after their hard-fought win.

Miss – Wendy Choo return tease

WWE NXT ran a tease hyping up the return of Wendy Choo. Apparently, she’s returning with her pre-injury gimmick. The persona worked in NXT 2.0, but may not make standout from her peers in the current White and Gold era of NXT.

WWE should’ve used Wendy’s absence to repackage her. I might eat my words if she gets a new gimmick following her return. It is worth mentioning that Wendy made her NXT Level Up return at the April 30 taping.

Hit – Dante Chen gets a huge comeback win on WWE NXT

The NXT Universe hadn’t seen Dante Chen since March 21, 2023. Chen partook in the North American title qualifying battle royal that night. He would continue to compete on house shows and Level Up tapings before losing to Bron Breakker in a squash match on SmackDown.

Chen made his WWE NXT TV return at the May 14 taping. The episode aired tonight. Mr. Stone introduced Chen as Lexis King’s opponent. Chen showed up to a huge ovation from the Orlando crowd. He’d pick up the win in his comeback match.

Miss – NXT Champion gets destroyed… again

This week’s WWE NXT featured Trick Williams in an in-ring promo segment. The NXT Champion told the crowd he didn’t attack Noam Dar. Oro Mensah, Jakara Jackson and Lash Legend interrupted the segment. Joe Coffey showed up to signal Gallus’ arrival.

Trick had no choice but to take on Gallus all alone. Je’Von Evans tried to make the save only to be destroyed by the trio. This is the second time in weeks where the NXT Champion has found himself at the mercy of a potential opponent.

Hit – Lola Vice betrays Shayna Baszler in WWE NXT main event

Lola Vice and Shayna Baszler lost their tag team match to Natalya and Karmen Petrovic. Vice attacked Baszler after the match. She added insult to injury by twerking on top of a fallen Baszler. The Queen of Spades stood up to grab Vice in a Kirifuda Clutch.

NXT officials arrived to prevent the two women from destroying each other. General Manager Ava booked a singles match between the former tag team partners. Baszler upped the ante by challenging Vice to a Women’s Underground match at NXT Battleground.

I really hope they don’t make Shayna job to Lola at NXT Battleground. The old Shayna needs to come back and destroy everyone in her path. Let’s hope Hunter and Shawn both turn her into the unstoppable monster she was in Black and Gold NXT.

Honorable Mentions

  • Joe Coffey, Josh Briggs and Wes Lee collided in a triple threat to determine the new contender to NXT North American Champion Oba Femi. Joe and Wes both pinned Briggs to earn a shot at the champion. Ava told Oba he’ll have to defend his title in a triple threat at NXT Battleground.

  • Jaida Parker defeated Brinley Reece after a hard-fought match. Parker joins Fallon Henley, Sol Ruca and Lash Legend in the six-pack ladder match for the NXT Women’s North American Championship at Battleground. The final two participants will be decided next week.
