It is NOT safe if you’re the dentist of Mildred Hayes (Frances McDormand) of Ebbing, Missouri.
Mildred pulls a reverse Marathon Man and torments her tooth doctor (and for good reason, we promise) in the acclaimed new black comedy/crime drama Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, written and directed by Martin McDonaugh (In Bruges, Seven Psychopaths). More specifically, she drills a little hole through “Big Fat Jeffrey’s big fat thumbnail.”
In the exclusive clip above, she faces the consequences from Sheriff Willoughby (Woody Harrelson), who arrives at the gift shop where she works to bring her in. (Mildred has already made his life difficult by buying ads disparaging his lack of action in her late daughter’s rape and murder case.)
“Hey there, Mildred, you didn’t happen to pay a visit to the dentist today, did you?” Willoughby asks, despite already being well aware of the answer.
“No,” Mildred answers sheepishly — mouth clearly still numb from the Novocain. “Of course not.”
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri opens Nov. 10. Watch the trailer:
