A 29-year-old mother was arrested and is facing charges for reckless conduct after allegedly ordering a friend to inject her with drugs while she was in labor, CBS Boston reports.

Felicia Farruggia was “full labor and giving birth to a baby boy” at her home in Concord, New Hampshire, police said, but she allegedly refused to let anyone call an ambulance until someone brought her drugs. Rhianna Frenette, 37, did and “[injected] Farruggia with an unsanitary syringe at least once before she successfully delivered a dose of [meth and heroin].” Frenette was also arrested and faces charges.

According to CRIMEONLINE, Farruggia then reportedly permitted a 911 call and gave birth in the ambulance minutes after she was helped in. She and her child were admitted to a Concord hospital and remained there for a few days.

The alleged incident happened in September, CBS reports, but details were released just this week because authorities had to wait on the results of toxicology reports. When asked by police why Frenette injected Farruggia when she asked, Frenette replied: “I’m a people pleaser.” Concord Police Lieutenant Sean Ford called the alleged incident a “complete disregard really for the value of human life."

It’s unclear if the child’s health was affected by the alleged drug use. The baby remains in state custody, as do all of Farruggia’s unidentified number of other children.
