WJHL Rewind: John Mellencamp rocks Freedom Hall

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) – In February 1992, former News Channel 11 reporter Chris Field joined thousands of others at Freedom Hall as John Mellencamp performed.

Mellencamp, known forever by some as John Cougar, put on the free concert with the help of MTV after Sammons Communications Inc. took MTV off the air.

Some signs brought to the arena by concertgoers demanded their MTV back, while others expressed their love for Mellencamp.
