Apr. 25—SYRACUSE — Actor, author and Blue Origin space traveler William Shatner will visit Destiny USA on Saturday, May 4.

Destiny USA and Cooperstown Connection are hosting the event, set for 1 to 3 p.m. (with VIP arrival at 12:30 PM) in the Canyon at Destiny. Shatner will sign merchandise, pose for photos and meet fans.

Shatner, 93, has spent over 70 years acting and is widely recognized for his role as Captain Kirk in the "Star Trek" franchise. Throughout his career, the actor has won several awards including two Primetime Emmy Awards as well as a Golden Globe Award. He has over 75 films and roles in TV series to his credit.

He is the author of nine "Star Trek " novels, including the New York Times bestsellers "The Ashes of Eden" and "The Return." He is also the author of several nonfiction books, including "Get a Life!" and "I'm Working on That." In addition to his role as Capt. James T. Kirk, he starred as Denny Crane in the hit television show "Boston Legal."

On Friday, the documentary, "You Can Call Me Bill" will be released on video-on-demand. The film follows Shatner's life and career.

In October of 2021, Shatner became the oldest person to go into space when he was a passenger with others on Jeff Bezos's Blue Origin rocket.

Tickets, which start at $159, are required for the Destiny USA event and are available for purchase through Cooperstown Connection's website, at wdt.me/ShatneratDestiny.

Shatner is a native of Montreal and a graduate of McGill University in that city and was active in campus theater productions. He received a bachelor's degree in commerce from McGill in 1952 and in 2011 received an honorary degree from the university.

In 2019, Shatner, in an interview with the Watertown Daily Times, said it would be difficult for him to select a favorite role from his career. "I bring what I am to each role as I change and get older and have new and different experiences," he told the paper. "They change. Capt. Kirk is different from whatever I'm doing now because I'm different. It's not like having a favorite. It's just everything is my favorite."
