The Wiggles have released a new EDM album — yes, you read that right — called The Wiggles Soundsystem: Rave of Innocence.
Featuring 14 Wiggles classics remixed as EDM songs, The Wiggles Soundsystem: Rave of Innocence is helmed by Australian DJ and Justice Crew member Lenny Pearce — who is also the twin brother of purple Wiggle John Pearce. The remixes were also provided by DJ Dorothy, the beloved dinosaur, who appears on the album’s cover.
The Wiggles Soundsystem: Rave of Innocence features bumping, techno remixes of Wiggles favorites “Fruit Salad,” “Bouncing Balls,” “Hot Potato,” and more. There’s also a fascinating rework of “Baby Shark,” which, well, you’ll just have to hear it for yourself.
Marking the debut of The Wiggles Sound System, a press release describes the album as “an electrifying fusion of nostalgia and party-starting techno beats,” and “a pulsating musical journey that’s part wild dancefloor party, part toddler tantrum tamer.” Anthony Field, a Blue Wiggle, said, “It’s so incredible seeing people in their 20s and 30s who grew up enjoying our music in a whole new fun way… and this remix album is sort of an extension of that. It’s wild ride – DJ Dorothy is on fire!”
As if it was the most anticipated album drop of the decade, a fan under the alias legweights94 found a USB drive containing the full Rave of Innocence album after a DJ Dorothy x Lenny Pearce set in Melbourne last month, and subsequently leaked the project on Soundcloud. The album made waves on The Wiggles’ reddit page, and was officially announced yesterday on Pearce’s Instagram.
It’s not the first time The Wiggles have been experimenting with more mature music. Back in 2021, The Wiggles collaborated with Kevin Parker by combining Tame Impala’s “Elephant” with their own “Fruit Salad.” Parker was enthused, dressing up as a Wiggle himself and performing the song with the group in Perth. The cover — which topped the 2021 poll of the Triple J Hottest 100 — appeared on The Wiggles’ reimagined covers EP, ReWiggled, which featured renditions of songs by Blondie, AC/DC, Rihanna, and more.
