Here's Why Taylor Swift Didn't Join Joe Alwyn at the Oscars

The conclusion of Joe Alwyn's award season run for The Favourite is tonight at the Oscars. And many believed ahead of the event that his girlfriend of two years, Taylor Swift, would join him on the red carpet or at the award ceremony, and that it would the secretive couple's very first official event together. But it appears Swift has decided to let Alwyn take the spotlight tonight-at least on the Academy Award carpet. There's still the Vanity Fair Oscars after party. Alwyn just walked the Oscars red carpet with his co-star Nicholas Hoult:

Had Swift gone with him, it would have been their very first time posing on a red carpet together. Alwyn and Swift have only been shot on casual dates in the past-never an event this major. That said, the Oscars are just the beginning of the night. There's still a chance for Swift to join Alwyn at one of the Academy Award after parties or even as a surprise presenter during the show.

In fact, there's precedence that hints this could happen.

First of all, Alwyn and Swift already did an Oscars pre-party together on Friday night, so she's in Los Angeles, at least in part to support him.

Swift did not walk the Golden Globes red carpet with Alwyn or sit with him during the show even though she made a surprise appearance at that ceremony as a presenter. But she did attend multiple after parties with him after the ceremony. Alwyn and Swift were even seen kissing at one by another guest, who tweeted about it.

Swift also made a surprise appearance at the BAFTA Awards' after party, where she joined Alwyn and his The Favourite costars. She skipped the ceremony because she was shooting Cats in London during the day. At the dinner, Swift and Alwyn were photographed being very affectionate by The Sun reporter Dan Wootton.

Tonight is a big career moment for Alwyn and his The Favourite co-stars. While Alwyn himself does not have any individual Oscar nominations, The Favourite has several ensemble nominations, including one for Best Picture.
