Rihanna teased she was going to the 2024 Met Gala, then ultimately didn’t. As 10 P.M. rolled around on Met Monday, and all other attendees had posed on the red carpet, Rihanna and her boyfriend, A$AP Rocky, remained missing. A source told People that was because Rihanna is sick with the flu.

Ahead of the event, Rihanna teased that she would be there and was keeping her look more simple. Last year, she appeared in a hooded Valentino gown with a large skirt.

Rihanna told Extra in late April, “I’m actually just keeping it real simple this year...very simple...I think it’s gonna come to what my makeup and what my hair is going to do. We wanna play with that, but I have no idea what I’m gonna do with that.” She ended up debuting pink hair the weekend before the event, adding to the speculation.

While Rihanna chose not to give the world a fashion moment, she did recently discuss her personal style while speaking with Interview magazine. Rocky is the better dressed between them usually, she admitted: “I be feeling bummy as shit next to this man. I feel like, goddamn, I look like his assistant. I’m getting on a plane. We should be in sweats. He wants to be in a full Bottega suit. I’m like, ‘Why you got to do that to me?’”

That said, the singer and entrepreneur stressed she isn’t trying to compete with him: “It’s more like I spend my time getting the kids [their sons RZA and Riot] dressed to death, and then I’m like, ‘What’s the most comfortable outfit to wear around them? What’s not going to feel uncomfortable on their face or on their body or make me feel like I can’t hold them properly?’ Moms are lazy dressers in real life.”

She confirmed that she does dress her boys like their dad though: “Everybody thinks Rocky dresses them because I dress them in Rocky outfits.”
