Why was KEZ's Beth McDonald in a Netflix's Ashley Madison documentary? '5.8 seconds of fame'

It’s not the kind of news you want to hear: Hey, did you know you’re in that new show, “Ashley Madison: Sex, Lies & Scandal” on Netflix?

But that’s exactly the question Beth McDonald, the co-host of the popular KEZ 99.9 morning show “Beth and Friends,” heard when her sister in Indiana called recently.

“It was a surprise to me,” McDonald told The Arizona Republic. No doubt. Because who would want to learn they’re part of a documentary series about a relationship site for married people who want to cheat on their partners?

Not to worry. Andrew Babinski, who was recently named co-host of “Beth and Friends,” got down to brass tacks on a recent show. “Were you sleeping and hooking up with married dudes?” he asked.

Um, no. “I was talking about it in the studio,” McDonald said.

Why was Beth McDonald in an Ashley Madison documentary?

Indeed, she points listeners to Episode 2, at the 14:30 mark, where McDonald is standing in the studio talking about the 2015 leak that exposed the information of more than 30 million Ashley Madison users.

“I’m waiting for the fun to begin on this,” McDonald says in the clip. “Whose name will be on it?”

And that’s it. “My 5.8 seconds of fame.”

Although it may play out as more than that. McDonald said she was having a drink at Tarbell’s and the bartender asked her if she knew she was in the show. Later a friend asked, as well.

How much was Beth McDonald paid for being in a Netflix show?

“I don’t know how they got the video,” McDonald said. “I have no idea.” She wasn’t paid for her appearance.

She also hasn’t seen the show yet, only the clip of her appearance in it. But she plans to. “I feel like I have to,” she said.

And that, she said, will be the extent of her connection to the site.

“It’s not like I’m paying to be a part of Ashley Madison,” she said. “I’m not that exciting.”
