Here’s Why It Will Cost More to Watch DAYS on Peacock Soon

Since Peacock has nabbed the rights to air the 2024 Summer Olympics, NBCUniversal is increasing its subscription rates as a revenue boost, anticipating more viewers will want to subscribe to watch the event. It also plans to add extra goodies to enhance the Olympic viewing experience. This also means it will be more costly for Days of Our Lives fans.

Subscription Prices Are Going Up Again

Fans were a little dismayed when DAYS moved from the NBC broadcast network to the Peacock streaming service in September 2022. The network had already garnered success when it played the original spin-off, Days of Our Lives: Beyond Salem, on Peacock, and they felt that having new and repeat episodes together in one place would help the audience find what they wanted.

In 2023, Peacock raised its subscription price from $5 to $6 for Peacock Premium, while Peacock Premium Plus rose from $10 to $12. If a viewer chose the annual subscription, there was also a jump from $50 to $60; the highest tier went from $100 to $120.

Now, on July 18, new subscribers will be charged an extra $2 with Peacock Premium set at $8 and Peacock Premium Plus at $14, while the annual plans will jump significantly more with Premium going up to $80 and Premium Plus taking a huge leap to $140. Those who already have subscriptions won’t see their rates go up until August 17.  Comcast, which owns NBCUniversal, reported that in the first quarter of 2024, there was an increase of 55% in subscribers over 2023, meaning that 3 million paying viewers signed up for Peacock.

Extra Features For Olympics Watching

Considering their revenue is already in the billions, the price hike might have some people scratching their heads. Still, because the streaming app picked up the 2024 Summer Olympics, which starts in Paris on July 26, the rationale is obvious: Clearly, major sports and Olympics fans will want to see it and will subscribe to the service even if they cancel after the event.

As a way of enticing new subscribers, Peacock will be adding such things as “watch parties with host Alex Cooper, an interactive tool called Peacock Live Actions, and multiview, which allows for four simultaneous views,” according to CNET. NBC had previously put DAYS on a two-week hiatus during the 2021 Olympics, but now it won’t have to since the show is on Peacock and its own clickable entity.

While many viewers will no doubt be miffed by this price increase, DAYS fans must remember that a portion of the network’s revenues goes to the sudser’s budget, and hopefully, this incredible increase will be reflected in the show.
