Music lovers rejoice! Whether your style is country, classical, jazz, Latin or rock, there's a show this weekend in Bloomington for you. Don't like loud noises? Make the sound of turning pages be your soundtrack by picking up a book at the Monroe County Public Library's Friends book sale, which begins Friday. Want your stories told to you or expressed through dance? Check out Monroe County Civic Theater's “Stories of Light and Dark,” also at the library, or go "Dancing in the Dark," with the African American Dance Company at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater.

Big Spring Book Sale runs Friday through April 15 at the library

Find adventure, advice or take a trip through the past at the Friends of the Library's Big Spring Book Sale, open to the public Friday through Monday at 303 E. Kirkwood Ave. From 10 a.m.-6 p.m. April 12 and 13 all books will be between 50 cents and $1.50. Then from noon to 6 p.m. April 14, people can get a tote bag and fill it up with books for $10 or fill a box for $15. All books will be free 9 a.m.-2 p.m. April 15, the last day of the sale.

IU musicians perform for Friday Musicale at Meadowood

Each year Friday Musicale awards two small scholarships to music education students at Indiana University's Jacobs School. This year's scholarship winners, Sciarra Quinn (oboe) and Natalie Nef (violin), will perform at 1:15 p.m. Friday at Meadowood Health Pavilion Lounge, 2455 Tamarack Trail. Also featured will be piano duets by vice president Linda Storm and Vicki King, playing a program by Fauré, Bizet, Mozart, Brahms and a surprise duet in the style of Victor Borge.

Culture Shock at Dunn Meadow Friday

WIUX will host Culture Shock with seven artists performing 1-9 p.m. in Dunn Meadow on the Indiana University campus Friday. Indie psychedelic songwriter Evan Wright will be this year's headliner, performing at 8 p.m. Other acts include They are Gutting a Body of Water, Merce Lemon, Westhead and Ed Winn.

African American Dance Company's Spring Concert is Saturday

The African American Dance Company will be "Dancing in the Dark" at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater, 114 E. Kirkwood Ave. The work inspired by the 2024 total solar eclipse will feature a collection of dances from modern to drum-infused contemporary masterpieces. It's the 50th spring concert for the group. Tickets are $29 general admission, $19 for youth age 18 and younger and $19 for students with ID. Snag your seat at the box office or online at buskirkchumley.org.

Tonos del Sur concert brings Latin music to Faith Lutheran Church on Saturday

Tonos del Sur's spring concert in Bloomington will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday in the sanctuary of Faith Lutheran Church, 2200 S. High St. The group will explore the sounds of secular and religious music from codices, cathedrals and missions from across the Americas from the 1600s-1800s, sung in Quechua, Chiquitano and Spanish. Tonos del Sur is excited to perform works from the Catedral Metropolitana archive in Santiago, Chile, which have not been heard since the 1780s. The concert is free and open to the public.

Monroe County Civic Theater presents "Stories of Light and Dark" Saturday afternoon

From 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Monroe County Civic Theater will share excerpts and poetry designed to celebrate the seasons and the majesty of the sky at the Monroe County Public Library, 303 E. Sing for Joy!, Bloomington Jazz Orchestra combo brings All that Jazz on April 17

"All that Jazz" combines the Sing for Joy! community choir and the Bloomington Jazz Orchestra for a 6 p.m. concert on April 17 at St. Mark's Methodist Church, 100 N. Ind. 45/46 Bypass. The concert, emceed by Kathy Romy, will include iconic jazz standards such as "Caravan" in up-tempo swing, bolero, ballad and exotica styles, with scat singers and instrumental improvisations.
