There’s been a trend lately of film studios releasing a few minutes of a film on social media. We’ve been able to watch the first 8 minutes of The Iron Claw on YouTube, and the first 10 minutes of Dune: Part Two on Twitter, and now you can watch six whole minutes of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.

Odeon Cinemas, a UK-based subsidiary of AMC, has posted a sizable video containing clips of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga on Twitter, lasting just short of six minutes. Unlike previous instances of this phenomenon, this isn’t the first six minutes of the film, but instead a couple of minutes from early in the film – not the very beginning – followed by a montage of other clips from throughout the film.

The video essentially acts as a long trailer for the film, which is set to be released in theaters next week after a showing at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this week.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is the latest film in the Mad Max series, acting as a spinoff and somewhat of a prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road. It features Anya Taylor-Joy in the leading role as Imperator Furiosa as she faces off against Chris Hemsworth’s Dementus, a warlord biker gang leader.

From the clips alone it looks pretty good, and we get to see Chris Hemsworth’s four-hour makeup transformation in action — we’re still not sure if it was worth four hours in the chair, but it does look good in any case.

Early reactions to Furiosa have been mostly positive, with critics calling it “a visual fest,” “epic,” and “one of the most brutal Mad Max films yet.” The film was well-received by critics across the board, and 88% of reviews on review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes are positive. The situation is similar on Metacritic, which currently has a weighted score average of 82/100.

We were a teensy bit less positive in our own review of Furiosa: A Mad Saga, where our reviewer said it has big ambitions but does a disservice to its characters:

“Furiosa, while thrilling, is, at times, an exhausting watch. The audience is desperate to catch its breath, and before there is time to make sense of what is happening, a large portion of the film is over, and there's little left to make of the rubble.”

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga will be released in theaters in the US on May 26, 2024.
