One month ago, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry celebrated daughter Lilibet's first birthday, and we can't believe just how fast the youngest royal is growing! That said, with age comes big milestones. Since she only met her great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II for the first time in June, followers have been wondering two things: Has Lili been christened yet, and are there any clues about who her godparents could be?

It's not too surprising that not many details have been revealed about this since the couple has primarily stayed out of family circles after stepping away from senior royal duties. But we do know that Lili's brother Archie was christened on July 6, 2019 (just two months after his birth). The Sunday Times reported Tiggy Pettifer and Mark Dyer are his godparents. So, it's inevitable to wonder the same about Lili.

Over the last few months, there's been much speculation about whether or not she has been officially christened. Back in October 2021, NBC royals correspondent Neil Sean claimed to Express that the former Suits actress ran into a block while planning the ceremony: Harry's brother Prince William, who didn't think it would be a good idea for the couple to host the christening. Read below what he told the outlet:

"One of the bigger problems that Meghan really encountered of late is that she wanted her daughter, Lilibet Diana, to be christened in [St. George's Chapel,] the place she was married alongside her husband Prince Harry. And then the christening of her firstborn, Archie. But that came to a grinding halt. Both Harry and Meghan were very keen to make that return and make sure that christening happened, particularly in front of Her Majesty The Queen. Some people may say they're just capitalising on their royal connection and why not? It's how they make money now. But moving forward there was one person who basically decided there wasn't an appetite for this and the person that seemingly is, so far, not willing to kiss and make up with his younger brother."

Just a few days later, the couple refuted the claims entirely. In a statement to E! News, Harry and Meghan's spokesperson explained that "plans for the baby’s christening have not been finalized and as such, any assumptions about what will or will not take place are mere speculation."

In addition, royal followers thought that maybe Lili would be christened this June, as the entire family flew to England to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. At the time, royal correspondent Richard explained his thoughts to Express on how it could potentially happen.

"Lilibet, as far as we know she hasn't been christened yet and this is just speculation but I think quite a lot are wondering whether the family will use the time here to have a small, private christening. Perhaps at the Queen's private chapel in Windsor Castle or at the chapel on the grounds of Royal Lodge where the Queen often goes to worship on Sunday. Nobody is telling me that is going to happen. We don't know, we're probably not going to find out but it's probably one worth keeping an eye on."

But as far as everyone now knows, Lili didn't have any type of religious ceremony. While she did meet her great-grandmother for the first time, her parents chose to throw her a small birthday party at Frogmore Cottage instead. Archie's second godfather Charlie Van Straubenzee, and Harry's cousins Zara and Mike Tindall were in attendance.

Wow — that's definitely a lot to take in. But this doesn't answer our other question of who could Lili's godparents potentially be. Though Meghan and Harry haven't made any formal announcements about this, one woman spoke out about not holding that title: Oprah Winfrey. When she was asked about taking on the coveted role, the former talk show host explained that she doesn't "need to be a godmother. I mean, I'm a godmother by default. I'm a neighbor, I'm a friend."

We also know that Prince William and Kate Middleton likely would not be godparents, as royals tend to pick a large number of friends and non-immediate family members for the role. As an uncle and aunt, they're already, assumingly, play a large part of Lilibet's life. "There's a feeling that because of their role as members of the royal family that they need as many confidants as they can get apart from their parents," Robert Jobson, royal editor of the Evening Standard, told ABC News in 2015.

Well, until Meghan and Harry make an official statement about Lili, we won't know specific details. But we do have some information about Archie's godparents. Read more about it here:
