Here’s how the night broke down:

Chance the Rapper opened the show with a performance of his new single “Together.”

Then host Carson Daly got down to the business of results. The first finalist announced was Karen Waldrup. The second artist to make it to the finale was Nathan Chester. The third finalist was Josh Sanders.

Before the results continued, Brazilian singer Anitta took the stage to entertain with her singles “Ahi” and “Lose Ya Breath.”

Then the final artist going through on America’s vote was revealed to be Asher HaVon.

That left Bryan, Maddi Jo, Madison, Serenity and Tae to sing for the Instant Save.

The first artist to take the stage was Serenity Arce, who performed Kelly Clarkson’s “Because of You.”

Chance said, “I am so proud of you. You deserve to be up here. You should be proud of yourself. Week after week, you gave amazing performances. You have such confidence on stage and confidence in yourself. You’ve given amazing performances. Take in this moment and recognize that.”

Second, was Tae Lewis with Hunter Hayes’ “Wanted.”

Shay told him, “I am so proud of you. These are the moments in life that are tough. You are up on the stage fighting for your life. Keep going. Beyond this show, you're terribly talented and you have Nashville behind you. Take this opportunity and work even harder."

Performing third was Bryan Olesen with Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida.”

John said, “I was just talking to Dan and Shay about how important picking the right song for this moment is. That was a grand slam. It was rousing, it was energizing. That was right in your pocket as a performer. I feel like I should be at your arena concert. Don’t send him home yet, America.”

Fourth was Madison Curbelo singing Michael Jackson’s “Man in the Mirror.”

Dan said, “That was the high energy performance we needed in this moment. You stepped up in such a big way. We are such fans of you every time you perform. We need you to move to the finale.”

The final performance was Maddi Jane with Lady Gaga’s “I Will Never Love Again.”

Chance told her, “That performance speaks for itself. You are such a strong vocal talent in all registers and all forms of movement. It’s always a wonderous thing to watch.”

Then Carson announced the voting began for the Instant Save. When the show returned from a commercial break, the votes had been tallied.

The winner of the Instant Save was Bryan Olesen.
