Grocery stores across the country are continuing to take the concept of one-stop shopping to new heights with the introduction of bars, restaurants, food halls, and other unique offerings. Soon enough, sports gambling might join the mix.

This week Cleveland.com reports that Acme Fresh Market and Kroger have both applied for licenses that would allow them to add sports gaming kiosks at select locations in Ohio. This news comes nearly two years after a sports betting bill passed both chambers of the Ohio Legislature, and was later signed by Ohio Governor Mike DeWine.

Titled HB 29, the bill allows for the legalization of sports betting in the state of Ohio. But before you make plans to place bets on your favorite NFL team as you pick up a gallon of oat milk, the first possible day to make legal bets is January 1, 2023, according to Cleveland.com. And that's if Acme Fresh Market and Kroger receive final approval for the sports gaming kiosks.

Thus far, Acme Fresh Market has been pre-approved for a kiosk-style Type-C at nine locations and Kroger has been pre-approved for kiosks at 42 grocery stores in Ohio.

Although it's unclear what Kroger locations in Ohio could get the kiosks, a Kroger in Cincinnati, Ohio is already providing customers with a unique shopping experience. In 2019, the grocery store debuted not one, but five restaurants in a food hall attached to the store.

One can only imagine what Kroger has up its sleeves next.
