Viola Davis Reveals the Fellow A-Lister Who Was Behind Her Tear-Jerking Honeymoon

Becoming a famous actress has undoubtedly provided some unforgettable moments for Viola Davis. Winning her first Oscar, acting with incredible co-stars, telling powerful stories, and so on. But, while those may all be pinch-me moments for her, one memory from her honeymoon might top it all.

Looking back at that moment with People, Davis remembered her 2003 honeymoon with her husband Julius Tennon at George Clooney‘s luxurious Lake Como Villa.

“We were the only guests in the villa,” the Fences star remembered. “We ate four or five-course meals.”

“And I remember at one point, Julius looking at me and his eyes were teary, my eyes were teary, and we just stared at each other for the longest time,” Davis remembered of their special time. “And I remember Julius saying, ‘Can you believe his heart?'”

Years later, Davis and Tennon are still thinking about the experience. “I’m not going to lie. Julius and I are still trying to manipulate getting back there,” she joked.

Previously, Davis already gushed about Clooney’s generosity and how he offered for them to stay in the first place. “He said, ‘And I’m not one of those Hollywood types who, you know, offers something and then takes it back, you can come whenever you want,'” Clooney told Davis, whom he co-starred with in Solaris, per Yahoo! Entertainment.

Following the trip, which surely got her marriage off to the right foot, Davis humbly thanked Clooney’s generosity. “I got him this, like, aluminum — God, this is embarrassing — this aluminum jazz figurette from New Orleans,” she revealed during an episode of Watch What Happens Live.

Despite being a thoughtful gift, Davis admitted it didn’t come close to the sophisticatation Clooney is used to. “We’re cheap — seriously — we are cheap,” she said.

Cheap or not, friendships like these are ones to keep forever!
