Viola Davis’s Embarrassing Thank-You Gift to George Clooney

Viola Davis dropped by Watch What Happens Live, where she talked about the time her buddy George Clooney lent her and then new husband Julius Tennon his 22-room villa on Lake Como for their honeymoon.

Davis recounted, “He said, ‘And I’m not one of those Hollywood types who, you know, offers something and then takes it back, you can come whenever you want.’” So the newlyweds stayed by themselves at the giant home, and it was lovely.

As for a thank-you gift, Davis said, “I got him this, like, aluminum — God, this is embarrassing — this aluminum jazz figurette from New Orleans.” And apparently she didn’t spend very much on it either saying, “We’re cheap — seriously — we are cheap.” Though she did say Clooney was very gracious.

When asked what he thought of the gift, Davis’s Suicide Squad co-star, Joel Kinnaman, said, “You know, you could have gone a little further, you know?” And an embarrassed Davis replied, “Now listen, don’t judge me, OK? He told us not to give him anything, and we listened to him!”

Watch What Happens Live airs weeknights at 11 p.m. on Bravo.
