Veteran Memphis/Elvis radio DJ Argo joining country station KIX 106

Longtime Memphis DJ and media personality Argo will be back on the live local airwaves.

Cumulus Media announced Argo (Derrill Argo Jr.) will be taking over the Monday through Friday 3-7 p.m. drive time slot on local country station KIX 106/WGKX-FM.

“It’s extremely meaningful for me to be joining the team of this legendary heritage radio station,” said Argo in a statement announcing his new role. “I grew up listening to KIX and believe the country format is as viable as ever, welcoming new fans and serving those that have roots as deep as KIX 106 itself.”

A well-known and familiar figure in local and regional radio, Argo previously worked at 96X, FM-100 and WMBZ The Buzz. For the last two decades, he has been one of the signature voices on Sirius XM’s Elvis Radio and a prominent public figure at Elvis Presley Enterprises at Graceland. Even with the move to KIX 106, Argo will continue to host a daily show on Elvis Radio.

KIX 106 program manager Kay Manley said she was “thrilled” that the veteran DJ was joining the station. “We've known each other a long time," Manley said. "He's a radio guy, a Memphis guy and a good guy. He brings so much to the table. Our listeners are gonna love him.”

Cumulus Media Memphis Vice President Morgan Bohannon added that the company, “places a high priority on having the best live and local team we can find. Argo is the perfect addition to our team.”
