Venom 3 Changed Its Release Date for This Reason

It's election year in the United States, but what has that got to do with film and television? A whole lot, according to Variety, who assessed recent box office hits such as Civil War and Sound of Freedom, overtly political movies that are drawing audiences in instead of deterring them.

But studios are steering clear of releasing their films in that fateful early November window where audiences are expected to be engrossed in the Biden v. Trump rematch - and the fallout either outcome will cause.

Sony is following suit, having moved up Venom: The Last Dance from November 8 to October 25. The decision flew under the radar as it was revealed during the closing days of the historic Hollywood strikes, but Variety's analysis now suggests that the reasoning was more tactical.

An unnamed studio executive said to Variety, "Anything opening the week of the election, good luck. It'll be hard to break through."

Notable films hitting theaters in late November include Ridley Scott's Gladiator sequel, as well as Disney's Moana sequel and the Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande-led WICKED.

The later November releases may serve a helpful purpose, with people needing respite following a tumultuous election cycle.

For now, the release calendar in early November remains bare, and audiences will have to wait until the latter half of the month to return to movie theaters.
