Jon Huertas is ready to dive back into the world of This Is Us!

Reacting to the news that his former costars are launching a rewatch podcast dedicated to the series, Huertas — who played Miguel Rivas on the beloved NBC drama — tells PEOPLE that he couldn't be more excited.

“I think they're pretty cool, rewatch podcasts, and it's an opportunity to get back together and talk about the show and how much fun we had on it and appreciate our audience,” says the actor and director, 54. “And some people are watching it still, today, especially on Netflix.”

This Is Us stars Mandy Moore, Sterling K. Brown and Chris Sullivan announced the big podcast launch earlier this month. Their new series, aptly titled That Was Us, will premiere in May.

“It feels so good to be back in the wagoneer,” Moore, who starred as matriarch Rebecca Pearson, said in the clip shared on Instagram at the time.

Brown, who portrayed Moore’s onscreen son Randall, then popped up in the passenger seat and added, “I’m thinking, maybe we should go do a podcast. What do you think, bud?”

“Let’s do it,” responded Sullivan, who played Toby Damon.

For Huertas, getting the chance to be a part of the cult show was an opportunity he’s never taken lightly.

“You just feel so lucky to have been chosen or to have fallen into this amazing thing that is like lightning in a bottle. I think the success was most likely because they put together all the perfect pieces, from the writers they brought into the writer's room, to the cast, to the crew, to the directors. [It was] this perfect collaboration of this group of people,” he says.

Huertas also credits creator Dan Fogelman for making a show that simply "resonated with so many people."

“It's definitely something that I'm proud to have been a part of,” adds Huertas of the series, which ran on NBC for six seasons from 2016-2022.

In addition to Huertas, Moore, Sullivan and Brown, the show also starred Justin Hartley, whom Huertas recently had the chance to work with again behind the scenes of his new show Tracker, which airs Sundays on CBS.

Huertas directed the ninth episode, titled "Aurora," that aired on April 21.

“It definitely felt like no time had passed. [Justin] is one of the people I got closest to on [This Is Us], so it was like two brothers reconnecting,” Huertas recalls of their reunion. “And we had a great time and a lot of laughs. That's one thing that Justin's good for is making you laugh.”

So, while Moore, Sullivan and Brown may be preparing to kick off their podcast next month, Huertas admits that the project didn’t come as a surprise to the other members of cast like himself and Hartley.

“Invites have already been extended and I'll be on there at some point,” he says. “They just announced it to the public, but we've known about it for a while. They sent us all texts on that group chat, and we were like, ‘Yeah, whenever you need us!'"
