Tyler The Creator has never been shy about paying homage to rappers who came before him. The Hawthorne, Calif., rapper had the chance to perform with Lupe Fiasco this past weekend and showed love to the Chicago native afterward.

Fiasco had a Coachella set on Sunday (April 14) at the Heineken House and brought Tyler out to perform his 2008 hit “Paris, Tokyo.” The 33-year-old rapper posted a clip of their set with a glowing caption, saying, “paris tokyo is in my dna. love to lupe, he so cool and a GREAT performer. ive studied him and wow wow i look so great sheesh what an amazing chessboard i made.”

Tyler has been a loud and proud Lupe Fiasco fan throughout his career. In 2022, he traveled to New York City so he could be in the building for the “Kick Push” rapper’s The Cool 15th anniversary show. Watch their Coachella performance below.

Tyler, The Creator was all about love during Coachella weekend. He brought out A$AP Rocky and Childish Gambino during his headlining set on Saturday night (April 13). At one point, he admitted that he used to hate both men after performing “Running Out Of Time” with Gambino.

“You know what’s sick? I used to hate that ni**a,” he told the crowd. “Seriously, I don’t know why, I gotta go to therapy to figure it out. But then this ni**a put this song called ‘Urn’ out, U-R-N. It was so undeniable, ni**a, I was at conflict with myself. I’m like, ‘F**k, how could a ni**a that I hate so much be so good?’ And now, the tables have turned and this ni**a barely returns my calls.”

He had the same energy for Rocky as well. “You know what’s crazy? I used to hate that ni**a, too,” he said. “Okay, we thought we had beef. It was the ni**as around us, then me and Rakim were like—we was in love and now we’re friends.”

Lupe Fiasco, on the other hand, was looking to match the spicy energy that’s been moving through the Hip-Hop community lately ever since Future, Metro Boomin, and Kendrick Lamar released “Like That” and dissed Drake and J. Cole. “Hear me clearly when I say this, and I mean it from the bottom of my heart when it comes to this art, and I quote: I will battle any motherf**king rapper anywhere, any motherf**king time,” he said during his Sunday set.

“I don’t give a f**k how many records you sold. I don’t give a f**k how many awards you have. If you want smoke, I swear on my motherf**king soul, I will walk through ni**as, I will chew up ni**as, I will body motherf**kers. Quit playing with me! And that goes for every motherf**ker walking and talking,” he said. He jokingly included Tyler in that warning as well, despite the fact they were on stage together.

Lupe has made his thoughts clear regarding the brewing battle between Drake and Lamar. “Kendrick is a better technically skilled performer, but I don’t think he’s a better rapper,” Fiasco said. “I do not think [Kendrick] is an amazing lyricist.”
