ALLEN: NAHH THEY DONT CHEAT IN Ga. NOT AT ALL -- THEY START IN THE SCHOOLS AND WORK THIER WAY UP TO ELECTIONS ============================================= Georgia’s 2011 graduation rate plummeted 13 percentage points under the state’s new formula, to 67.4 percent from 80.9 percent. Before the new calculation, which was released last week, school districts often masked dropouts as transfers; they could also count students as graduates no matter how long it took them to finish. An Atlanta Journal-Constitution analysis of the new graduation data shows seven metro Atlanta districts lost even more ground than did the state as a whole. In addition, 57 Georgia schools, 20 of them in metro Atlanta, failed to graduate even half of their students. "Suspicious test scores in roughly 200 school districts resemble those that entangled Atlanta in the biggest cheating scandal in American history, an investigation by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution shows. The newspaper analyzed test results for 69,000 public schools and found high concentrations of suspect math or reading scores in school systems from coast to coast. The findings represent an unprecedented examination of the integrity of school testing. These are the schools that the 2001 No Child Left Behind Act was supposed tofix. A state probe has found that teachers and principals in dozens of Atlanta public schools doctored students' test papers — the latest scandal involving the high-stakes world of standardized testing in the nation's school systems. The report names 178 teachers and principals, and 82 of those confessed. Tens of thousands of children at the 44 schools, most in the city's poorest neighborhoods, were allowed to advance to higher grades, even though they didn't know basic concepts. One teacher told investigators the district was "run like the mob."After a state investigation, it was found close to 80 percent of Atlanta Public Schools cheated on the Criterion-Referenced Competency Tests (CRCT). "We found cheating in 44 of the 56 schools," Gov. Nathan Deal said as he read from the CRCT report summary during a news conference at the State Capitol Tuesday morning. "answer to all this "I'm sure they had a good reason for cheating. Maybe the standardized tests were RACIST against American Africans. Maybe the tests didn't properly accomodate students from a DIVERSE background. Hey, what's the big deal about scores anyway? " The Atlanta Journal-Constitution The principal of an Atlanta school where cheating was rampant pleaded guilty Friday, saying both his boss and Superintendent Beverly Hall put extreme pressure on him to falsify standardized scores. Christopher Waller, the former principal of Parks Middle School, will become an important witness for prosecutors in their case against Hall and other former educators who have maintained their innocence. There are now 13 defendants left in the case who haven’t pleaded guilty and would face trial in May. Twenty-one defendants have pleaded guilty. ================================================= Six former Atlanta principals and teachers recently pleaded guilty to cheating offenses, bringing the number of pleas to 17. Prosecutors say Hall was a leader, driven by bonuses and federal funding tied to better test results. The testing scandals have fueled a debate over using high-stakes classroom tests to judge the performance of teachers, administrators, and schools. In Atlanta, some teachers who cheated blamed extreme pressure to meet district goals. In all this cheating scandal has it been mentioned why the cheating was necessary?
