New "Twilight" Book "Midnight Sun" Gets Release Date From Stephenie Meyer

Twilight fans, our time has come. For years, Twihards have faithfully waited for the release of the elusive Midnight Sun — a novel that tells the Twilight story from Edward Cullen's perspective — and that time has finally come. During a special appearance on Good Morning America, Stephenie Meyer confirmed she'll finally release the story.

During a brief video appearance on Monday's show, the Twilight series author confirmed that Midnight Sun will arrive on August 4. "It's a crazy time right now, and I wasn't sure if it was the right time to put this book out, but some of you have been waiting for just so long," she said. "It didn't seem fair to make you wait anymore."

Prior to Monday's confirmed release date, Stephenie had posted a countdown on her website, and fans speculated it hinted at the release of Midnight Sun. When the countdown expired, her site crashed, and fans took to Twitter for any bit of news.

With the news officially announced, many Twilight fans are rejoicing, tweeting, "I cant believe we're finally getting midnight sun" and "2020 JUST TURNED AROUND FOR ME!!!!"

Midnight Sun is a part of some major Twilight history, as the story was previously leaked on the Internet in 2008. Meyer later responded to the leak by posting her current draft of the book, and at the time, the author said she was "too sad" to keep working on it.

Fans will have to wait a bit longer to return to Forks, but Stephenie did promise a "darker" world, USA Today reports. “It’s definitely darker, and I would say more desperate. The stakes are way higher from (Edward's) perspective," she said.
