Jeff Bridges recently revealed that he would be appearing in the upcoming Tron: Ares, where he’ll likely be reprising his role as Kevin Flynn.

Bridges recently appeared on the Film Comment podcast (via The Playlist), where he let it slip that he’s set to travel and begin filming a role in the upcoming film. While he didn’t specify what he was doing, Bridges did portray Kevin Flynn in 2010’s Tron: Legacy.

“I’m heading off this Saturday to play a part in the third installment of the ‘Tron’ story; I’m excited about that,” Bridges said. “It’s wild. Jared Leto is the star of this third one, and I’m really anxious to work with him, and I’ve admired his work.”

Bridges went on to say that he’s excited to see the set of the upcoming film, and has heard that the practical effects in the film are “beautiful.”

“I’m anxious to see what the technology and what it will be,” said Bridges. “I hear there’s even less A.I. stuff in this. It’s going to be more a practical set, and they’re beautiful; there are beautiful sets that I’ve seen.”

Besides Bridges, Tron: Ares also stars Jared Leto, Cameron Monaghan, After Yang actor Jodie Turner-Smith, Past Lives breakout Greta Lee, Golden Globe winner Gillian Anderson, Emmy winner Evan Peters, and Yellowjackets star Sarah Desjardins. Leto will reportedly play the titular character — a manifestation of a program that becomes sentient and crosses over into the human world.

Who is directing Tron: Ares?

Tron: Ares is being directed by Joachim Rønning (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil) from a screenplay written by Jesse Wigutow and Jack Thorne. The film is produced by Emma Ludbrook, Jeffrey Springer, and Leto. Russell Allen will also serve as an executive producer.

The 1982 original centered on Jeff Bridges’ Kevin Flynn, a computer programmer transported into a fantastical virtual world and enlisted to topple an evil AI regime. Over three decades later, the film was followed by the Joseph Kosinski-helmed sequel Tron: Legacy, which starred Garett Hedlund, Olivia Wilde, James Frain, Beau Garrett and Michael Sheen.
