A Tri-Cities family laughed it up with comedian Steve Harvey on Family Feud and showed they had a knack for guessing the popular game show’s survey answers.

Five is the maximum number of consecutive shows for a family, with the possibility of winning a car on the fifth night, said Angie Ham Gehlen of West Richland.

Spoiler alert: Their episodes are expected to air on NBC’s Tri-Cities, Wash., affiliate KNDU for five weekdays at 4:30 p.m., April 26 to May 2.

Gehlen competed on the show with her sister Molly Formo of Richland, cousin Katie Froehlich of Kennewick, aunt Julie Froelich of Richland and uncle Jack Ham of Richland.

If you watch and the family members look familiar, you may know them from working at Hanford or from some Tri-Cities schools or the cancer center.

“We had some funny moments on some of the episodes,” Gehlen told the Herald.

“It was a lot of fun,” she said. “Steve Harvey was hilarious.”

He entertained the contestants and audience between takes, she said.

On each episode two families guess the most popular answers to survey questions and then one family competes in the “Fast Money” timed bonus round for $20,000.

Formo is a lunch lady at Jefferson Elementary in Richland. Katie Froehlich is a teacher at Carmichael Middle School in Richland. Julie Froehlich is a retired Richland School District bus driver. Ham is a retired Hanford nuclear site operator and Gehlen is a nurse navigator for Kadlec’s Hematology and Oncology clinic at the Tri-Cities Cancer Center in Kennewick.

Formo had long wanted to appear on a game show, auditioning for several shows with family members before the family was picked for Family Feud, Gehlen said.

The five family members auditioned online via Zoom in 2022 for Family Feud, with lots of smiling, laughing and joking. They got the call in April 2023 that they had been picked to film an episode the next month.

They were told then that it could take about a year for their episodes to air.

The five bonded as Family Feud flew them to Atlanta, Ga., paying for their flights and hotel rooms.

“It was just a really good experience,” Gehlen said. “I highly suggest people try out for a game show — you just never know.”
