Trevor Noah takes down Donald Trump's African border wall suggestion

On The Daily Show With Trevor Noah, Noah took down Donald Trump’s idea for yet another border wall — this one across the Sahara desert. Earlier this week, Spain’s foreign minister, Josep Borrell, said that Trump suggested to him that Spain build a wall across the Sahara to thwart Europe’s migrant crisis.

Trump’s suggestion has more than a few problems, one being that Spain doesn’t share a border with Africa; they’re separated by the Mediterranean Sea. The closest Spain comes to Africa is at the Strait of Gibraltar, which is nine miles wide at its narrowest point. Another issue is that the Sahara is over 3,000 miles long and one of the most unforgiving environments on earth.

Borrell said that after offering his advice, Trump said, “The border with the Sahara can’t be bigger than ours with Mexico.” Spanish officials reportedly had to explain to Trump that it is in fact about 1,000 miles longer than the U.S.-Mexico border.

In addition to all the stated reasons that it’s illogical, Noah pointed out the biggest difficulty with Spain erecting a wall in the Sahara: “I can’t even believe I have to say this, but Africa is not a part of Spain, so they can’t just build something on someone else’s land.”

The Daily Show With Trevor Noah airs weeknights at 11 on Comedy Central.
