Trevor Noah actually agrees with something Donald Trump said

The unthinkable happened on The Daily Show With Trevor Noah on Thursday: Noah agreed with Donald Trump. On Thursday morning, Trump’s former attorney, Michael Cohen, pleaded guilty to lying to Congress about the Trump Organization’s dealings with Russia during the campaign. Cohen had been working with Russian officials to broker a deal to get a Trump development deal in Moscow. He had previously stated that the last contact he had had with those officials was in January 2016, when it was actually in June.

Many thought Trump should have walked away from the possible deal when he decided to run for president, but he defended not doing so: “There was a good chance that I wouldn’t have won, in which case I would’ve gone back into the business, and why should I lose lots of opportunities?”

And that’s when it happened. Noah almost seemed shocked as he said, “Wait. Did you hear what he just said? Wait. He said the reason he didn’t stop his business dealings is because he also thought he would lose. He just said that. He said, ‘There was a good chance that I wouldn’t have won.’ Well, yeah, I agree with him now.”

Noah said that he would have told Trump the same thing, that if in 2016 Trump had approached him and asked if he should shut down his business in case he became president, Noah would have replied, “Donald, there’s no danger of that happening, my friend. In fact, you should expand.”

The Daily Show With Trevor Noah airs weeknights at 11 on Comedy Central.
